For millennia the rogue wave has been a feature tale of old salts, nestled over a pint talking of a great wall of water that arises from nowhere and is unforgiving to all in its path. The very idea of a rogue, an open-ocean monster that dwarfs its neighbours, is - according to the prevailing science of the last 50 years - a one in 10,000 year possibility.
Recently, the nature of this phenomenon has become more understood – and the same guiding scientific principles found in this unique ocean-based phenomenon also arise in sound engineering, seismology, particle physics – even social networking strategy.
Now consider the fact that in every enterprise – be it a business, non-profit organization, co-operative or community project – there exist many ongoing & sometimes recurring obstacles to growth & success. In small business statistics, less than 1 in 4 enterprises reach their 4th year. In the not-for-profit model, the failure rate is similar. Not only are these ratios roughly consistent year after year, but in fact very little has changed in these statistics in the last few decades.
What if we were able to draw a parallel between these realms, and somehow apply our growing understanding of hydrodynamic theory such as to allow a well-directed & exponential output of power in our businesses, organizations & projects? As creators, what would our projects look like if – at our exact moment of need – we were able to superimpose these oceanographic principles and effectively triple our output for a brief period of time? Join me as we explore this together… in depth.
